Great Lakes further Information

Lake Erie
Lake Erie is the oldest, shallowest and busiest of the Great Lakes. Lake Erie continues to furnish more fish for the nation’s consumption than the rest of the Great Lakes combined.
Sailors make their mark in the Inter-Lake Regatta, one of the top-notch races in U.S. yachting. As many as 500 boats compete, coming from as far away as Argentina. During the summer months, visitors are attracted to Lake Erie's beautiful beaches.
Lake Erie Closeup
The old summer homes on Lake Erie’s islands are surrounded by vineyards. The plump Catawba is king of the wine grower’s grapes. Cold winters and cool summer nights are the necessary ingredients for excellent wines.

Admiral Perry's Monument for Peace

North Bass, Middle Bass, South Bass and Kelley's islands, are inhabited year round and attract a large number of warm weather visitors. These islands huddle around a granite pillar that rises 352 feet above the village of Put-in-Bay on South Bass Island, Lake Erie’s most popular island. This Doric obelisk, erected in 1915, commemorates Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry’s defeat of the British squadron in these waters during the War of 1812.
